Food Academy 5th Birthday Celebrations
On May 23rd, the Food Academy programme celebrated its fifth birthday. The three stakeholders of the programme, Bord Bia, LEO and SuperValu came together to celebrate the milestone. The event itself was coordinated by Bord Bia with significant support and input from the other two stakeholders. This celebration also doubled as a media briefing with a focused attendee list of key business, agribusiness and consumer media with a view to ensuring that the Food Academy success story reaches a wider audience.
There were a number of speakers on the day, Minister Creed and Minister of State Breen shared the positive Food Academy story from a business and the local employment point of view reflecting on both Bord Bia and LEO involvement. Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of Musgraves Retail Partners Ireland, shared the commercial success story of the Food Academy programme from SuperValu’s perspective.
A panel of food producers, featuring Erica Sheehan of Home Spun, Janet Drew of Janet’s Just Delicious, Stephen Flynn of the Happy Pear and Dominick McGroddy of Lily’s Tea was chaired by MC Helen Carroll, ensuring that individual producer stories and their experiences of the programme were shared. Ten successful Food Academy producers from across the country were present on the day. Breakfast served that morning featured products from a selection of Food Academy suppliers. Heads of each of the stakeholders were present at the event, together with Enterprise Ireland and other guests.
